There was something about this man that drew her in. Her gaze fixated on the strange, but soft features of his face. She saw true sadness in his eyes. Upon touching she felt a pain so deep that her body trembled as his worn and callused hand took hers firmly. She felt afraid, but not the sort of fear you would expect. It was an anxious fear, the kind of fear only felt when an adventure has begun.
He was tall and striking, his body towered over hers like a brick watchtower and she couldn't help but watch how firmly he stood, as if he owned the ground underfoot and the sky above. He had no fear. He was a man of purpose and it would be the night of her death that she would finally understand what his purpose was.
He watched the girl with curiosity. Why had he been sent here, what did she hold that was so precious to the royals? It wasn't until he relaxed slightly that he finally saw it. She was dangerous. The darkness follows her. Like the moon chases the sun. He watched as the shadows bent and twisted to be near her. Yes, there is something dark about that child. It wants for her. This is why he came to her. The darkness is what he was meant to save her from. He was her protector. And he would do just that, regardless of the cost.
