Dark Blue

She can feel it trying to invade her body. It seeps through her pores, filling her veins with icy poison. It always comes when she's afraid. It feeds off of her fear and suddenly she's drowning in it. She doesn't mean to be afraid.

As the poison draws deeper into her veins she can feel her own body betray her. She closes her eyes and feels the darkness fill her soul and finally she feels at home. The cold welcomes her. She never really understood the color dark blue, until she felt it. It calls to her as the last sliver of light fades from the day. It wraps her body as she dances through the night in cold bliss. Cold wonderful bliss.

The Beginning of the End

The sound of their conversation slowly faded as her focus turned to the faint sound of rustling leaves. The spoken words were too familiar and felt rehearsed, as if every line had been repeated over and over again leaving all emotion stripped. Each took their turn expressing how deep their love was for the other, and even through the sincerity of the statements it was hard not to notice that she was only trying to convince herself. So much time had passed since they joined that it seemed the days and nights melted into each other like the dark shadows of a painting.

She often felt trapped, tied down with nothing more than a string of decisions made when she was much too young. Kenneled like a pet, never having tasted freedom, she spends every waking moment dreaming of it. The attention she receives never seems to satisfy the cravings and only fuels her curiosity for the unknown. She will gaze intently into the soul of anyone whose eyes meet hers, but no one can hear her silent screams for release. She needs some kind of release, she needs something to wake up her sleeping soul. She wants to feel alive again, and she will. So she sits with him, talking and smiling, patiently waiting for that moment.
